It is possible to walk around the lake in approx. 90 minutes, or it can take up a whole day, if stopping for lunch, coffee or for admiring the scenery.
There are the "pletna" boats which you can take to the Island for approx. 20 euros per person. These are large boats capable of carrying more than 10 people, typical of lake Bled.
Electric boats are slightly cheaper at 14 euros per person.
Rowing boat rental - 10 euros per hour
Stand-up paddleboard rental - 10 euros per hour
Swimming in the lake is permitted in the allocated areas.
A beautiful rock gorge, where the river has eroded the limestone over thousands of years. When the locals saw this beauty they wanted to share it with others, and made wooden pathways, building parts of the path on the face of the rock. This can be a day trip to hike - it takes an hour and 15 minutes to get there on foot, another hour to walk through, and an hour and a half to walk back to the starting point over the hill.
For a more relaxed experience, you could go with the car or a local bus. It is possible to take a taxi from the end back to the starting point.
There are so many nice places to stop at around the lake, that it's easy to spend a week trying all the food and drinks. We recommend that you plan this in advance. Some offer traditional Slovenian food, while others may reveal pieces of the country's history! Belvedere cafe (pictured) is worth a visit!
Above the lake is the castle, with stunning views, a bar, restaurant and museums. Entrance fee is (2022) 13 euros per adult. It is possible to walk up to the castle from behind the church of St Martin in the town, up a forest path from the other direction, or you can drive up to the car park.
Lake Bohinj is another lake, larger than Bled, 30 minutes away by car or bus. The valley is much more enclosed with mountains, and the water is colder. There is a ski lift that is open in the summer, it can quickly take you up the mountain for better views, at a cost of 40 euros per adult, or 36 per child or over 60s. At the top, just minutes from the ski lift, there is a distinct mountaineering vibe - some wooden huts with basic local food menus, such as home made cheese platters.
Pokljuka is a plateau nearby (20 minute drive from Bled) with a lot of hiking trails. The mountain hut style in the Triglav National Park is protected, which is why typical old houses with wooden roofs can be found scattered around.
In the winter, this is the main cross-country skiing area for Slovenia, and hosts events such as the world cup biathlon.
For expert mountaineers, the valley of Bohinj also has the starting point to Triglav, the highest mountain in the country. The hike normally takes 2 days, which includes staying at one of the mountain huts overnight. Regardless of your experience level, hiring a guide is strongly recommended.
One of several beautiful waterfalls that are in driving distance. If you are heading over to lake Bohinj, it is worth incorporating this walk. It takes 20 to 30 minutes to walk there from the parking area, and both parking and entry have a fee.
